NEW DELHI: Patients at a quarantine center in the Indian city of Agra have been thrown out of doors and given food.
A video that went viral on Indian social media shows a man in protective clothing throwing food and water bottles inside a door and people standing on the other side of the door trying to get it.
The video is allegedly from the Hindustan College in Agra, which has been turned into a quarantine center by the local administration.
Locals claim that this is how food is distributed in the quarantine. Agra District Magistrate Prabhu Narain Singh also confirmed that the incident took place a few days ago but now the situation is different.
According to the magistrate, a report on the incident is being prepared.
He said the center housed more than 500 people, but a local health official put the number at 130.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Onish Kumar Osthi said the incident was being investigated, adding that there was a delay in the distribution of food, which led to chaos.
Considering that the situation of corona virus in Agra is very bad, the mayor of Agra has expressed concern that a situation like Wuhan may happen in the city, he has declared the local administration ineffective.
He said that the quarantine centers set up in the hotspot area have not been able to conduct tests for several days and proper drinking water has not been provided to the patients.
In a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the mayor said that his Agra was going through a crisis. Tough decisions need to be taken to save Agra, the situation has become very serious. I join hands with you and ask you to save my Agra.
It is believed that 31,332 people have been diagnosed with the corona virus in India so far, while the number of deaths due to the virus has exceeded 1,000.
