Yemeni Houthis are attacking Saudi

(news updates)

Yemen's Houthi rebels are attacking Saudi Arabia with Iranian-provided drones and are ignoring UN calls for a ceasefire in Yemen.

The White House National Security Council said in a tweet on Wednesday.

(2/2) Instead of heeding the UN calls for a ceasefire, the Houthis are attacking Saudi Arabia with explosive UAVs provided by Iran.

It is time for the Houthis to work towards a peaceful solution to end the conflict in Yemen.

The Arab League on Monday shot down two Iranian-backed Houthi Shiite rebels dropped on Saudi Arabia from Yemen.

A spokesman for the Arab League, Colonel Turki al-Maliki, said the two drones were heading toward the city of Khamis Mushait in Saudi Arabia. And so it continues to violate international humanitarian law.

The spokesman said the Houthi actions were a clear violation of the ceasefire and contradicted the Arab League's peace initiative to reduce tensions, which began in April. Colonel Turki al-Maliki said the Houthis had so far violated the ceasefire by 4,455.

He said the Arab League would continue to work in accordance with international humanitarian law to deal with and eliminate the Houthi military capability.

The Houthi militia periodically launches rocket and drone strikes on Saudi border towns. It fired a missile at Abha airport in June 2019, killing one person and wounding seven others.

In another tweet, the White House Council said that Saudi Arabia was holding a conference to help war-torn Yemen, while the Houthis continued to obstruct the distribution of essential humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people.

Yemen, the Houthis continue to obstruct the
 delivery of vital humanitarian assistance.

Saudi Arabia hosted an UN-sponsored virtual aid conference for Yemen on Tuesday, with various countries pledging  1.35 billion for humanitarian aid in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia has pledged 52 525 million in aid to the conference.

The money will be distributed to the Yemeni people through UN agencies and international organizations. Yemen is the largest donor to the poor under the Food Program.
