The UN Human Rights Council has launched a debate on human rights abuses in the name of racism, police brutality, and the use of force against peaceful protesters in the United States.
The meeting in Geneva took place in the wake of the death of a white citizen, George Floyd, at the hands of a white police officer in the United States. Speaking on the video link, Floyd's brother told members that he had seen George Floyd die at the hands of the police. Take notice of the racist situation in the United States by setting up a commission of inquiry.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said that the demonstrations taking place today reflect the pain that has been endured for generations. But despite this, nothing has changed, this is an opportunity for change.
He said George Floyd's family was seeking help from the Human Rights Council. He wants a global commission of inquiry into the situation facing blacks in the United States. Demonstrations around the world in support of George Floyd are also strongly advocating for the establishment of this commission.
