China was ready to respond to any negative move by India
ISLAMABAD: The NIST Institute of Policy Studies (NIPS) has organized a webinar to examine the impact of the ongoing standoff between China and India on security in the region and Pakistan.
The webinar was chaired by Lt. Gen. Naveed Zaman, HI (M), (Retd.), Rector NIST, and Patron of NIPS while Dr. Ashfaq Hassan Khan, Director General NIPS and Principal NIST School of Social Sciences and Humanities. Participated in the webinar as a mediator.
The participants unanimously agreed that the current state of relations between the major powers has transformed the region into an important zone for global peace and stability.
Former Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Riaz Khokhar, highlighted the need for a negotiated peaceful resolution of the dispute between the two nuclear-armed states over Ladakh. He said India needed to end the dangerous trend of perceiving Chinese tolerance as a weakness.
Air Chief Marshal (retd) Kaleem Saadat, former Chief of Air Staff and President of the Center for Aerospace and Security Studies, said that China was fully prepared to prevent any negative move by India.
He suggested that there was a need to be fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation in the region. Former High Commissioner of Pakistan to India, Ambassador Abdul Basit stressed that a China-like solution to the Kashmir issue was needed. The involvement of a responsible major power is essential.
