Former United States President Barack Obama on Monday condemned the use of violence in violent protests across the country but praised the efforts of peaceful protesters seeking reform.
Obama wrote in an article published on an online media platform that the majority of protesters are at peace but that a "handful" of elements are a threat to the people and peaceful protesters for reform.
Republican President Donald Trump Democrat Obama, a two-time president of the United States before the administration, said the violent protests exacerbated the plight of cities with a lack of basic services and investment and diverted attention from major issues.
White House spokeswoman Kylie McCain announced at a news conference Monday that 17,000 National Guard personnel would be deployed in 24 states.
The staff has been asked to set up a command center to discuss the crisis.
