The Taliban detonated an explosive-laden vehicle near the base.
Fighting between security forces and the attackers lasted three hours, according to Afghan officials.
Security sources said that at least 5 security personnel were killed and several others were injured in the attack. The bomb blast destroyed the military base building.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack
