The Afghan government has released 100 Afghan Taliban prisoners.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced
the release of 2,000 Taliban prisoners yesterday.
"Last night, US Secretary of State
Mike Pompeo called me and the head of the
National Reconciliation Council, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, and thanked them for their decision
to release 2,000 Taliban prisoners,

The Afghan president also wrote that Mike Pompeo had stressed that the United States would start a long-term ceasefire and direct talks.
It should be noted that the Taliban had declared a three-day ceasefire in the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
