Taliban should fire ceasefire on humanitarian grounds in Ramadan: Zalmai Khalilzad
US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmai Khalilzad called on the Taliban to reduce violence and call for a ceasefire.
In a statement, Zalmai Khalilzad called on the Taliban to cease fire on humanitarian grounds during Ramadan, suspend military operations and reduce violence.
He said that all the people of Afghanistan and all parties together should stand on a platform against the enemy which is corona virus.
Zalmai Khalilzad said that Ramadan is an opportunity for Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Abdullah Abdullah to prioritize national interests over personal interests.
He emphasized that the two sides should move forward with the exchange of prisoners, adding that the exchange of prisoners was urgent in the wake of the Corona virus outbreak.
US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmai Khalilzad also said that the exchange of prisoners would help in the peace process and intra-Afghan talks.
The Afghan Taliban has responded to a request from US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmai Khalilzad.
The Taliban say the demand for a ceasefire and a reduction in violence is illogical and a seizure of opportunity, while the opposition is not living up to its promise.
